Books for The Climb

This Spring I’ve been reading a lot. Along with the team joining us for The Climb in September I’m reading three books:

  1. Vagabonding by Rolph Potts
  2. Success Mindsets by Ryan Gottfredson
  3. Positive Intelligence by Shirzad Chamine

All of these books provide great perspective on how we think. And all of them provide strategies for thinking differently so we can optimize outcomes in everything that we do… Be it climbing a mountain, leading a team, or going on vacation.

An Unorthodox Guide

Another book I’m enjoying this spring is Build: An Unorthodox Guide to Making Things Worth Making by Tony Fadell. I’m loving this one! The author, Tony Fadell, led the teams that created the iPod, iPhone, and Nest Learning Thermostat — arguably some of the most game-changing products of our time. He shares what he’s learned during 30+ years in Silicon Valley about leadership, design, startups, Apple, Google, decision-making, mentorship, devastating failure, and unbelievable success. Will you read this one with me? Check it out and tell me what you think!

What Are You Reading?

When I embark on an EOS implementation with an entrepreneurial Leadership Team, I introduce them to five books that we read together along the way:

  1. Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business by Gino Wickman
  2. Good to Great by Jim Collins
  3. The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive by Patrick Lencioni
  4. How to be a Great Boss by Gino Wickman / Rene Boer
  5. The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni

These titles offer an amazing perspective on building a great business and leading a great team to run the business.

Read Together to Be Together

An amazing thing happens when multiple people – such as those climbing a mountain together, or those building a business together – read the same books together! We all experience the same book but it lands differently on the unique perspective and past experience of all who read it.

When we discuss books together we gain new insights that don’t show up for us in our individual reading. We also begin to share the language and vocabulary that is conveyed in the book. This becomes an important aspect of how a team interacts effectively and efficiently together. Being in sync with your team on concepts and vocabulary takes the “administrative drag” out of your work together … You don’t have to slow down to explain what you’re talking about because your team “Gets it”.

NEXT STEPS FOR YOU

What is your team reading this spring? Give me a call and let’s introduce them to a reading list that will help all of you to build a better business and live a better life!

Stay focused! I’m here to help…
